I have made a practice pair of trousers, and I am struggling to separate fit from style. The waist feels comfortable, but the finished outline does not resemble the pattern example. Most advice I find introduces body categories before explaining how to inspect the garment itself. I have been looking at body shape and colour analysis to understand the vocabulary, but I still need a practical order of checks. Would checking the seam balance come before judging whether this leg width suits my preferences? I could use an existing pair I enjoy wearing as a reference for movement. The test fabric is stiffer than my planned fabric, so that may affect the impression too. Keeping notes while changing one detail at a time seems more useful than finding a category. How do experienced sewists distinguish a construction problem from simply preferring another silhouette?
