Our theatre group is sorting donated costumes for a small production. Some loose pieces look angular while others fall into a rounded silhouette. I would like to understand how style systems describe those visual differences. My aim is to make the costume notes understandable to someone who missed the fitting. I could describe the cut, the stiffness of the cloth and the overall length separately. I would rather describe a particular outfit than decide somebody belongs to one type. The notes also need to work when a replacement actor borrows the costume, so I want observations that remain attached to the garment. Has anyone compared ordinary tailoring language with the terminology of body type systems? An example involving one jacket would help more than a long list of labels.
