For a sketching assignment, I am collecting examples of different outfit silhouettes. Each card needs a description that another student can test against the picture. An exaggerated pose makes it hard to tell what comes from the garment itself. I put body shape and colour analysis on my reading list while looking for clearer terminology. Before using any category, I would compare a neutral standing pose with the finished sketch. Then I would mark the shoulder line, the waist placement and the hem width. Color would go on a separate card so it does not distract from the outline. Our tutor asks us to distinguish observation from interpretation, and I want the cards to make that distinction visible to the whole class. What would be a fair way to check these captions with another drawing student? I would welcome a small exercise using ordinary clothes rather than idealized figures.
