For a library reading circle, I am preparing an exercise on what happens when style guides disagree. A continuous silhouette is central to one recommendation, but the other recommends a visibly broken outline. I suspect the authors are using different ideas of balance, although the terminology initially sounds quite similar. My proposed exercise uses two sketches of one outfit, with just the disputed feature altered between them. One topic for the accompanying reading is color and body type analysis and I want participants to remain free to prefer either result for their own reasons. Which questions would expose differences in the frameworks without nudging the group toward one preferred answer? I would welcome a simple discussion structure that keeps observations, interpretations, and individual preferences separate. We will record the reasons behind each recommendation before comparing the drawings, so that different definitions remain visible throughout the discussion.
