The costume team for our community performance has asked me to shortlist a few recognisable wig styles. We need a layered silhouette that remains visible under stage lighting without covering the performer’s eyes. My reference notes currently include avril lavigne hairstyles for this project. I am struggling to distinguish the actual haircut from the effects of straightening and careful photography. The performer changes costume twice, so anything requiring a fresh restyle between scenes seems unrealistic. We would rather pin sections temporarily before making any permanent changes to the wig. Has anyone simplified a reference haircut for theatre while keeping the overall silhouette recognisable? We also need to check that the wig stays secure when the performer turns quickly and moves between the wings and stage. Tips for keeping the fringe clear of the eyes would give us something concrete to test at rehearsal.
