Our amateur theatre group is planning a small early-2000s music night. We have basic costumes and need a few recognisable styling details. I have been collecting references for avril lavigne hairstyles but I want a manageable stage interpretation rather than an exact celebrity copy. The performer has long hair and does not want any permanent changes. One possibility is a side part combined with two narrow braids. I am unsure whether the smaller details will read clearly beyond the front row. There will be a short rehearsal, so we can test the shape in advance. Simple pins and hair ties would suit our budget better than extensions. The singer moves around quite a lot during the performance, so we also need the style to hold together without constant adjustments between songs. What would you emphasise to capture the period while keeping the hair believable?
