For our next drawing workshop, I want to start with the outline of short hair rather than detailed texture. In previous sessions, people often began with tiny marks and lost track of the larger shape around the head. My idea is to compare several references through their front outline, side contour, and gaps around the ears. The exercise is about observation, so nobody needs to decide whether a particular cut would suit their own face. I am considering an outline study followed by a second pass for overlaps at the forehead and spaces beside the face. The final stage could use a handful of directional strokes, leaving enough blank space to preserve the larger shape. Which observation prompts would help beginners notice those differences while keeping the exercise simple?
