Our drawing group is planning an exercise about how a short haircut changes the outline of a portrait. In previous sessions, people often began with tiny marks and lost track of the larger shape around the head. The reference cards could show differences at the fringe, the sides, and the spaces just above the ears. I would keep the discussion focused on visible shapes rather than asking participants to judge anyone’s appearance. I am considering an outline study followed by a second pass for overlaps at the forehead and spaces beside the face. Only after that would we add a few directional marks to suggest texture without filling every area with lines. How would you phrase a few short prompts that keep attention on silhouette before texture?
