I am preparing a drawing exercise in which participants study short hair as an overall silhouette before adding individual strands. In previous sessions, people often began with tiny marks and lost track of the larger shape around the head. My idea is to compare several references through their front outline, side contour, and gaps around the ears. The short haircut reference I am starting with is pixie haircut and I would welcome other useful references. The exercise is about observation, so nobody needs to decide whether a particular cut would suit their own face. I am considering an outline study followed by a second pass for overlaps at the forehead and spaces beside the face. The final stage could use a handful of directional strokes, leaving enough blank space to preserve the larger shape. How would you phrase a few short prompts that keep attention on silhouette before texture?
