I am putting together a short community workshop about comparing hair shades, and I want the exercise to stay practical. We will use paper swatches and a mirror. The session will involve comparisons without applying dye. One participant asked about cool summer hair colors and I thought that could be a useful example of how people narrow a search. I would show several browns rather than one ideal shade. Each label would mention warmth and depth. We could then discuss why two similar names may look different on different screens or printed cards. I want to leave room for personal preference. Any quiz would simply start the discussion. It would not become a salon formula. Has anyone found a clear way to teach this? I especially want participants to leave with useful questions for a colorist instead of a promise that one shade must suit everyone.
